Marcus was a very good instructor. It is not easy to train others in anything, let alone have an impact on people while doing it. He was motivational, informative, and supportive. He gave very detailed backup info when followup questions were asked without being defensive. He represented this course and what it exists for at the highest level.

Just wanted to pass on my thanks and support for a great course. I just started getting into bikes after 15 years of racing and auto-rossing cars. The large information, structured process and personal feedback have created a safe, well thought out and fun environment for learning how to ride a motorcycle. Josh, Tim, Marcus and Rich - really appreciate you taking time out of your weekends to teach me how to ride safely and with a lot of input on street smarts. Great job.

This was my first time on a bike. I'm 69 years old and I received my M1 licence within 2 months of doing the course. I enjoyed the classroom. Of course, it was more fun on the bikes. I was suprised at the high standard of the riding instruction. I expected less. These guys in blue jeans could have been leaders in the corporate world. I was referred by a friend and now I know why. Thank you Bikesmart guys.

I've never ridden before but always wanted to learn. I signed up for this course with a friend. What a great organization. These guys were all pros. I felt like they gave great input on how we could do better as we were riding but also very encouraging. They abide by safety rules at all times. Every one of the rider coaches had great communication skills. Cannot say enough good about these guys and the program - loved it. Worth every dime. I would encourage anyone wants to ride (or be a safer rider) to take this course! You will not be sorry.

Thank you for providing this opportunity and service!.

I just recently completed the Basic Rider Course, I think we were supposed to get a form to rate the classes, but I think all of us on my class walked away without the form. I had a really good experience with trainers Rick, Rich, Josh and Marcus. They were very professional and very patient with all of us even though we were at different skill levels. They made the class fun and enjoyable, while making sure we were learning. Rick constantly asked if we had any questions, to the point where I found myself really thinking about all possible scenarios and any questions related to actual traffic situations. All my questions were answered and I feel I came away with the basic skills and knowledge to practice with my own motorcycle. I will certainly be thinking about taking the advanced course at least six months from now.

I have only ridden a dirt bike a few times when i was a teenager, so I wanted to take the class in preparation for buying my first street bike. The classroom portion was ok. i learned some stuff but there was no lecture, just videos, looking up stuff in the book, and parroting the answers. the rider portion was extremely helpful. both instructors were patient and helpful. the riding instructions were very clear and they did a great job of helping me feel confident on the bike. I'm so glad i took this class.

The instructors are great! They're very well-prepared, knowledgeable, and pleasant to work with. The whole course is professionally organized and safe. I am an experienced motorcyclist, but I still learned (or re-learned) skills and ideas that I plan to use. All of the beginning students did very well, too. It was exciting for me to see the students pick up the skills and pass their tests.

I wanted to submit some feedback on the Basic Rider Course which I took August 17, 20/21 in San Jose.  I felt that the classroom session and rider course were both very enjoyable, the instructors were fantastic and attentive to riders questions/concerns.

My main complaint is the manner in which the classroom session prepares you for the DMV written test.  I went into the test having passed the classroom with a 96%, and feeling prepared I reviewed the DMV instruction manual very little.

While at the DMV and looking at the test questions, I did not feel adequately prepared for the test after your classroom session and failed the DMV test 3 times, forcing me to pay $31.00 again to retake the test.  I passed with 100% after reviewing the manual in closer detail.  I have the copies of my tests if you would like to review them and potentially add some similar questions to your coursework to properly prepare your students.

Other than that, I had a great time and thank you for reading this.

Response -
Our knowledge test is designed to be a confirmation of understanding for our course curriculum, the DMV test is designed to be a confirmation of understanding for the CA motorcyclist handbook. The BRC is not a prep course for the DMV test. Sample DMV tests can be taken on the DMV website.

Being a novice rider and wanting to avoid anything DMV related, I decided to enroll in the Bikesmart class in lieu of taking the skills test. Gerard and Paul at the San Jose campus exceeded all of my expectations.  I feel much more confident after learning the skills they teach in the class. All of us were novice riders.  Gerard and Paul did not talk at us or down to us and I was impressed with the level of instruction.  The class was well worth the time. I highly recommend taking this class.

The total experience was great. Marcus the classroom instructor was awesome. He was very knowledgeable and took us through the material at a good pace. I have ridden before, but I still learned many new things.

On the riding range Rocky and Rick were excellent. They both did a great job from start to finish. They were very thorough in explaining the riding techniques and skills needed to safely ride a motorcycle. Rocky and Rick made it fun and easy to learn at the same time. I would recommend this course for anybody who is a first-time motorcyclist.

I highly recommend this class to anyone that's seriously thinking about getting their motorcycle license.

Looking forward to riding portion.

I can't get over just how good the program was.  I went from zero skills and no confidence to riding and being confidently safe in two days. The coaches, Marcus, Brian, Paul and John, were all equally enthusiastic. But most importantly, I can't get over just how much they cared about not just teaching you skills, but about your current and future riding safety. For that, it's a small investment in your time and money.

One note for anyone considering Bikesmart MCT:  You need to come prepared to participate and learn.  Besides! The coaches won't let you slide!  That's so awesome.

I wanted to compliment you on your course. I have been riding for many years. I have both off road and street experience. Paul, Marcus and Rick are awesome. Marcus gave me incredible feedback which helped me out beyond what I could have imagined. I have always been cautious when using the front brake, but Marcus showed us that you can really stand on it without the bike going over.

The rain did put a damper on the fun, however, I am much more confident on the wet road now due to the time on the wet surface.

You guys are great and the help from the pro riders that you have on staff is beyond what I expected.

Thanks for the knowledge.

All of the instructors were well qualified and presented excellent information (e.g. Rocky); however "Rick" stood out from the rest. His calm, transmission of knowledge and procedures was a key factor in the high level of information and skills transfer. What a great instructor. Rick was born to teach this stuff. Hang onto him - he is a real asset to your program! The most important thing he taught me, was that completing MSF Basic Course, was just the beginning of my training.

I wish BikeSmart would offer optional private lessons, for those of us interested in continuing our formal training, as we begin to ride.

The basic rider course is a great course for both beginners and riders with some experience. Proper riding techniques are reinforced time and again till its more like a second nature. I have had quite some riding experience earlier, but taking this course has helped me to understand riding and its risks better and to be prepared for tough riding conditions. As the saying goes, 'emergency preparedness is what turns a disaster into an experience'. I think it applies well here. It is good to practice safe riding and pre riding checks although it may sometimes seem boring, its better to get where you are going than be in an accident.

I recommend this course to everyone who wants to get on motorcycle and enjoy riding. Also dmv riding test is waived upon successful completion. I personally think its better to take this course and be well prepared than just pass the riding test. Ride safe, always!

Don't be late or else you won't be able to ride, one person in my group was told to reschedule because he was 10 minutes late. I learned a lot from the course and I highly recommend any persons interested in riding to take this beginners course.

completed the Basic Rider Class this weekend (8/7 & 8 in the AM) and I was compelled to take the time to provide feedback on the class and the instructors. It was an EXCELLENT class!

The layout of instruction was very good and provided a real opportunity to get comfortable with the equipment before being thrust into riding. My real compliments go to the rider coaches; Mark and Marcus. They were truly wonderful. Good instruction, precise demos, excellent feedback, constructive criticism and just plain great guys!  They made the class extremely enjoyable AND beneficial.

It's not an easy job and they do it very well! I'm grateful that I invested in myself and my safety to go through this class. My partner and I even enjoyed the classroom portion! Again, John Finan was an excellent instructor.

I am HIGHLY recommending this course to anyone who is interested in learning to ride (or just brushing up on their skills to get back into it, as I did).

Thanks for providing a wonderful opportunity and a great learning experience!!!!! Hats off to your organization and your selection of Rider Coaches!!!!!!!

I was very impressed from the training. Very professionally organized and conducted. Mark was super but also Rocky and Marcus the 4th instructor were great. I already recommended you guys to my friends that all share the same challenge we all were experience riders and have a foreign license (Europe). Hard to pass the practical test with a big motorcycle and we will not buy a 250cc just for the test. In any event I am glad I took it, I learned new things, and met a lot of nice people. I think it is smart for the DMV letting you handle the training.

As Mark said it should have been a fun training, and it was. Well done. I did fill a positive feedback to the DMV.

I don't know if you remember me or not, but you gave me a $50 credit on my registration fee a few weeks ago when I showed up for class as somehow my name wasn't on the list and the class was overbooked. Well, I just wanted to let you know that I would have gladly told you to keep it if I would have known what informative, professional and talented people you have working for you.

Mark was our classroom instructor as well as on the riding range, and I can't say enough good things about him.  He made you feel comfortable and positive while emphasizing the importance of common sense, safety and the dangers of riding in other words, motorcycles are not cool play toys.  I would recommend BikeSmart to ANYONE who is thinking of learning how to ride.

The other two riding range instructors, Rocky and Paul were also excellent they both had a calming effect on you that made the exercises easier knowing that the feedback given would only be more positive in making you a better rider.

I wanted to make sure I got this email off to you as soon as possible,  as a part owner of my own business, I always like to hear when my employees are doing their job over and above the competition; that's how we stay ahead of the game!

My thanks again to BikeSmart and to Mark.  I m sure I have many, many happy hours of riding ahead of me!

This course was phenomenal! Mark Wing was my classroom Ridercoach and my rider coach for Saturday and Sunday. Not only was he very knowledgeable and personable but he has excellent teaching skills as well. He had the entire class involved in the materials and participating.

Rocky Fagurdes was my RC on Saturday and Paul Herbert was my RC on Sunday. They were all so encouraging and patient with the entire class.

I am a 46 year old male, I haven't ridden a motorcycle since I was a teenager and that was mostly dirt bikes. I wanted to learn about street riding, that is why I signed up for the class. But I learned so much more and the confidence I gained by the end of the class was beyond my expectations.
I can't wait to get my bike and start riding now.

I will definitely recommend this class to anyone who is considering a motorcycle.

Thank you for the wonderful program you have put together.

I was thoroughly satisfied with my experience. The classroom was comprehensive and the weekend sessions informative and motivational. My initial reaction to the idea of 5 hours on a bike was it may be too long to hold my attention but I found the opposite to be the case. At the end of the first session I didn't want to get off the bike and was eager to return for the next day.

The Rider Coaches; Mike, Rocky, and Paul were excellent. I cannot praise their efforts highly enough. Their explanations and demonstrations were concise and informative, and their advice positive and productive. They answered questions during designated breaks and were willing to impart their knowledge in regard to whatever query we had. Their enthusiasm was contagious and I left with a much higher degree of confidence about my decision to learn to ride.

The most important aspect I garnered from the course was a clearer sense of the fundamentals. All the skill sets taught were practical and replicable and I look forward to developing my familiarity with them. I was surprised by the degree of improvement I felt by the end of the Sunday session. It was a collection of little things that added up to a greater sense of control of the motor bike.

The only idea I could conjure to improve the experience would have been an extra session at the end, for anyone who might want to run some of the exercises with fewer participants on the track. It may offer those prepared to stay some practice time with a little more room to move. Unfortunately I didn't think of it until I was in the car half way home or I would have raised the idea with Mike and Rocky at the end of the Saturday session. It would have been nice to run some the exercises with a shorter wait between attempts.

I don't think anyone should be allowed on the roads in California on a motorbike, until they have done your course. Thanks again.

From the class to the range, I learned a lot about motorcycle safety and the proper handling and driving of a motorcycle (all that in 3 days)! The instructors are great: constantly giving encouraging feedback, giving general to specific on-street scenario instruction, and taking the time to explain what kind of motorcycle would best fit you. I would highly, highly recommend this course to absolute beginners and past experienced riders. Knowledgeable instructions combined with a great motorcycle experience, you just can't lose! I thoroughly enjoyed everything I learned in class. The instructors and driving coaches were great and very patient. There was a lot of hands on experience which was very enjoyable and necessary. I have been riding a motor scooter since 03/08 but to actually ride a motorcycle was even more fun. However, I do feel I could have benefited from more riding than just the 10 hours that were provided. It seems we would just learn a task and it was time to move on to the next task. The learning was at a good pace, it just would have been nice to practice a little more. I think maybe an extra hour or so per day would have been great.

Being an unexperienced rider, I was very nervous walking into class. Being a girl added more to the pressure. Paul and Gerard were excellent Ridercoaches. They were very patient, encouraging and knowledgeable . The program was well planned and executed with ease. I learned a lot from the exercises and wished we could go on and on for a few more hours. Paul was right: "Riding is better than coffee in the morning!".

Course was a very good basic course for both first time drivers, and drivers that had some limited prior experience. We all learned a great deal in the exercises, and the interaction with the ridercoaches. I cannot stress enough that new bike riders should take a training course. The video and reading material educate a novice in areas that are not normally available outside of a classroom. The limited riding sessions are there to prepare you for the most common skills needed to develop and continue to practice after taking the class. Well recommended if you want to start out to be a safe rider. The coaches were fantastic.

The course given by Paul (Classroom) and Mark & Omar (Riding) was exceptional as far as I was concerned. I have been riding Motorcycles for 28 years and I learned several new things just from taking the basic course. I have been using the things I learned everyday i have ridden my Gold Wing since then. It makes a difference in the comfort level I feel riding again after not riding for the past 6 years.

I just completed the Basic Rider Course as an experienced rider. I found the Rider Coaches, (Mark & John) were very knowledgable and confidence inspiring. The material could be very cut & dry, but Mark made the classroom session interesting by bringing all the students into the discussions and injecting humor and a atmosphere that was condusive to learning. The range exercises, even as en experienced rider, allowed me to freshen up my skills and refine some bad habits. John also gave good corrections and explanations throughout the training exercises. There was a good difference in coaching styles between the two coaches. It kept the training upbeat and interesting.

Yes, there's nothing like practice, practice, practice to hone the necessaryskills needed to ride a motorcycle. I would definately recommend this program and the Bikesmart Coaches to any beginning or experienced riders to develope or refine their skills.

It was never "marking time" but really building skills for drivers with some experience and taking those, like myself, with virtually none to a level of comfort with the bikes that I had not expected in two afternoons. This should be mandatory training for all bikers in California. Well done.

Just wanted to say that the course I took Oct 26 -28-29 was fantastic. Rick, Mark, and Chris are excellent instructors. They make sure you fully understand how to operate your bike in each exercise before moving you on to the next exercise.

I have much better skills than I had prior to the course and would recommend it to any person who is currently a new rider.

In fact one came in handy the other day as I went to make a right turn. As I slowed down to make a turn I went to down shift and my tow shifter was gone (unbolted somehow and fell off. No problem I just slowed enought for the curve (I have been in 3rd)and gave it extra throtle so that the engine didn't lug and went thru the tight turn. I was able to limp it home from there.

I plan on coming back for the advanced course next year.

And Brian does a great job putting on the classroom portion of the course too!
Thanks

I thought I would drop a note to you to applaud the training course. I had very low expectations going into the course and was primarily interested in getting a waiver for the DMV road test (my motorcycle license lapsed when I moved to CA 10 years ago) and to get a discount on my insurance. I was pleasantly surprised that I actually learned quite a bit! First, I would really like to compliment Mark. He did the classroom training and worked both range classes. He is absolutely excellent. He was very serious about the instruction, but in a very relaxed way. He is very friendly, approachable and respectful. His instruction was very clear without being pedantic. Mark is just a super guy. He was joined by Kevin for the second range class. Kevin was also an excellent instructor. He was quick to point out areas for improvement without doing it in a condescending way. Both guys really know their stuff.

I should also add the course design is obviously very well thought out andthe execution was very well organized. All in all a very positiveexperience.
Many thanks.

I was more than happy with the instructions given and the feedback received in the course. I was skeptical if I was gonna really learn anything in this course given that i have rode before, but i happily did. I kid you not...some of the stuff I learned in class saved my rear end within a half hour after leaving class.

The training for changing lanes...doing the head check saved me and also the proper braking taught saved me when I had to make a sudden stop at a light. Keep those guys in the course....they were great!!!

Awesome experience! All my fellow riders recommended this class and I agree. I had some riding experience compared to most in my class but still got a lot out of the class. The instructors were great. No one made anyone feel inferior. They demonstated every thing you needed to do before hand which was very helpful. All 5 instuctors I had during the 3 day class were exceptional and professional. If I was a beginner and going to take the class looking back now, I would read up on the D.M.V. handbook before class just to have a heads up. Especially for the class work there is a lot to take in in a short amount of time. They put you in groups but not all study well in groups. The test comes fast at the end of the night. Any extra studying will give you an added boost. Thats just my opinion. Videos that were shown were very informative. Its always nice to see things in action rather than just in a book.
It was well worth the money. Thanks for the great experience.
